The 2011 Chevrolet Volt is a plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) vehicle with a storage capacity of 40 miles... but for extended range traveling there is an onboard gas powered generator running at optimal rpm and fuel efficiency for best electrical output to the electric motor and rechargeable batteries allowing the range to be 230 miles per gallon. I hope Honda and Toyota provides this kind of car soon as an alternative to GM. Toyota Prius owners are apparently modding their car to get 100+ miles per gallon.
